Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s (CACT) Ferrero Joy of moving programme delivery at Upton Primary School provided year six pupils with engaging games and activities over a six-week period, and was topped off with a visit to Parliament.

These games and activities were designed to inspire active lifestyles in children, teaching them to enjoy moving through play.

Upton Primary School teacher Connor McInally praised the impact of the Joy of moving programme on both the year six students and the wider school: “The children were fully engaged throughout, and the activities were inclusive and accessible for all. CACT showed great adaptability and seamlessly adjusted sessions from outdoor to indoor settings to ensure that activities could continue regardless of the weather. CACT’s flexibility meant that every session was delivered effectively.

“The programme didn’t just benefit our year six pupils - it had a whole-school impact. Our older children went on to lead the activities at lunchtimes for younger pupils, helping to build confidence, leadership skills and a culture of active play across the school.”

As part of Ferrero’s celebrations to mark the 10-year anniversary of the Joy of moving programme, Upton Primary School were selected by CACT to participate in a visit to parliament, where several Community Club Organisations and their partner schools showcased the programme to MPs.

“Being invited to Parliament was a truly memorable and inspiring experience for our children,” Mr McInally explained. “We’re already looking forward to welcoming CACT back in September to deliver the programme to our new year six cohort.”

CACT Football & Sports Development Officer Josh Covill, who delivered the Joy of moving programme at Upton Primary School, said: “It was great to take Upton Primary School to Parliament for the 10-year anniversary of the Joy of moving programme. I delivered the programme to them for six weeks and they really enjoyed it. The children seemed really excited to visit Parliament and they all conducted themselves really well, enjoying the games that the other coaches and I put on. I’m looking forward to going back into the school to deliver the programme again!”
