Sonny - Holiday Courses
After first attending CACT's Holiday Courses shortly after turning four, Sonny has continued his journey across a range of football sessions in term time as well, showing clear development both on and off the pitch.
Starting out at Holiday Courses, Sonny quickly found a love for playing football and went on to attend regular sessions throughout term time, as well as returning to Holiday Courses during school breaks. His continued involvement has helped him grow in confidence, develop his skills and progress into CACT's Advanced Centre.
CACT coach Josh said: “Sonny has shown great strides in his development since joining the sessions at CACT when he was four. You can see how much he enjoys each session, and he is growing not only as a football player but as a person, with how happy and sociable he has been with the other children.
“He has been performing really well at our Advanced Centre so far, and this shows that there is a potential pathway for all the children who join the sessions at CACT. We are looking forward to seeing how far Sonny can take his football, and hopefully there will be even more opportunities down the line for him.”
Sonny’s mum added: “Sonny first attended a CACT Holiday Course just after he turned four years old. I left him holding Josh’s hand crying, but when we came back a few hours later he was having a great time and hasn’t looked back since.
“He soon started attending CACT’s Saturday sessions in Footscray, which ignited his love of football. Sonny has always been quite shy and lacked confidence, especially in big group situations, but the support from Josh and the wider coaching team helped build his confidence. Over time, we saw a real change - he became more confident, more sociable and his skill levels have improved so much.
“He has attended Holiday Courses ever since, and not only has he developed as a player, but he has also made friends from lots of different schools and backgrounds. We have a whole host of medals from penalty shootouts, and he proudly displays his many Player of the Week medals as well.
“Being invited into the Advanced Centre sessions is down to the support and guidance he has received from all the coaching staff at CACT. The whole set-up has made a real impact on Sonny, both as a player and in his personal development.”
